Winter Thaw 2026 – Looking Ahead
Hosted by the Wisconsin Association of Assessing Officers (WAAO), Winter Thaw 2026 brings assessors together for two forward-focused days exploring where assessing in Wisconsin is headed—and how to be ready for what’s next.
Monday opens with The Future of Assessing in Wisconsin, featuring insights from state agencies, policy experts, academia, and industry leaders. Sessions will explore workforce and labor market trends, automation and AI in government, real-world AI applications in assessing, statewide assessment studies, and WAAO’s evolving strategic direction.
Credits: Up to 6 credits anticipated, primarily Law and Management (pending approval).

Tuesday shifts to a practical, case-study-driven deep dive into equalization and sales, focusing on DOR expectations, validating sales, ratio analysis, equalized values, assessor reports, compliance, and how statewide outcomes are determined—along with important updates impacting the 2026 assessment year.
