Summary |
Cadastral Mappers are facing challenges from new
technology and current trends in
real estate ownership. In this
session we will review methods and technologies which give us the
ability to measure and display cadastral data with great accuracy;
thus giving us the ability to make clear assessment and government
management decisions based on these data. If the trend to divide
ownership interests with three dimensional legal descriptions
continues in popularity with developers, it is inevitable that most
jurisdictions in the Midwest will someday have to interpret and
display these legals on tax maps. We will be looking at interesting
examples of three dimensional surveys and legal descriptions. We
will also look at the use of historical maps as they are becoming
widely available. The use of GIS, LIDAR, aerial digital images,
precise geodetic surveys and the tendency to move away from long
standing traditional ownership interests, call for mappers to
reevaluate how the cadastral layer is displayed. |
