MONDAY AFTERNOON CLASS:  VALUATION OF UNIQUE COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS (3 hours appraisal credits) - class was previously given at the 2010 League conference in WI Dells


Seminar Description

View and discuss unique and odd characteristics that challenge assessors with valuation in a mass appraisal environment. For this course, you will gain experience by visiting and touring properties that may or may not be found in Marshall & Swift cost tables.  The instructors are John Holtan, Vice President of Associated Appraisal & Dean Peters, Maintenance Assessment Manager, Associated Appraisal.

 

 

TUESDAY CLASS:             EVALUATING RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION (7.5 hours appraisal credits)

Seminar Description

This program shows how single-family houses are constructed from the ground up. The presentation features thousands of digital construction images and a 120-page Reference Manual. The sequence of images, accompanied by the instructor’s monologue, illustrate how the structure, envelope, interior, and environmental system components influence value for houses ranging from custom to affordable, and even double-wides.  The instructor James Canestaro is a registered architect and certified urban planner, with professional expertise in design programming, building characterization, strategic facility planning, capital asset management, and project economic analysis. He is the author of books, articles, and computer simulation models dealing with real estate cost-benefit and feasibility analysis. (more information available here)

 

John T. Holtan is Vice-President of Associated Appraisal Consultants.  He is a Wisconsin Certified Assessor, Level I and has served on the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Association of Assessing Officers.  He is a member of the National Association of Real-Estate Appraisers and the Northeast Wisconsin Assessors Association.  John has both attended and taught many continuing education courses.  He has in depth knowledge of accepted principals, methods and techniques of property appraisal.  He has extensive knowledge of real estate property values and land economics in Wisconsin.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. 

  

Dean Peters is currently the assessor for the City of Wisconsin Dells and the City of Reedsburg, as well as several other cities, villages and towns in southern Wisconsin.  He is a certified Wisconsin assessor, Level 3, with over 12 years experience in the assessment field. Dean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In 2003, he became a Project Manager with Associated Appraisal Consultants, Inc.  He was promoted to Maintenance Assessment Manager in 2008.  His responsibilities include managing revaluation programs along with training and educating assessment staff. His extensive appraisal experience includes an emphasis in high-value commercial property and high-value lakefront property.
